MY UNIVERSITY EXPERIENCE SO FAR
I conduct interviews and ask others about their university experiences, so I think it’s time to share mine :)
The journey so far definitely hasn’t been easy. Balancing work, studies, and other extracurricular activities.
I’ve been involved in more activities this year than I was last three years (Foundation, first and second year).
My First year experience was not the best but it was fun. It gave me a head start of uni life. I made very cool friends. But I wasn’t really involved in extracurricular activities at this time.
Second year was more daunting, academically, socially, and in any other way you can imagine. I struggled a lot during this period, especially first semester. I made many rash decisions at this point and I even thought I would drop out of uni (my first year overall was higher than my second year overall grade). I spoke a lot with my family and my best friends. They were the only ones I could talk to, approach and trust. But I overcame all these by the grace of God and because of the good people I have by my side. They helped me pull through. People might say I was depressed at this time but that’s a big word that I don’t like to use.
This year, third year! It’s been amazing! It’s just first semester and I’m enjoying every bit of my journey. Academics is going well! Thanks to God. I’m making the best out of my experience this year, every encounter I’ve made, and everything I’ve done so far.
I am currently the president of the Nigerian Students Society at UoB and it’s been a fantastic experience, challenging in some ways but fun! For me, it’s all about time management and prioritising, those are two of my most valuable skills!
I’ve made really good friends as well.
Also, I took part in the B-enterprising Boot Camp challenge 2018. And I must say it was an amazing experience! It was intense because we had to solve a real-world problem in three days. But it was worth it! Every bit of it was worth my time. If you have the time next year I would say, go for it, meet new people and learn some new skills!
I’m not just sharing my experience because I feel like. The main purpose of this blog is for uni students to help each other. I want you to learn something out of it and see that uni is not just a 3-year party. If you are feeling overwhelmed by the stresses of uni or life in general, speak to someone about it (personal tutor, welfare tutor, family, friends) don’t stay quiet. I always go to my best friends because they encourage and comfort me. Join societies (it definitely pushes you), participate in other extracurriculars (it will help you identify your strengths). And most importantly, don’t forget to have fun!
